Tex Mex Sloppy Joes

Looking for a way to jazz up your sloppy joe’s? These are sooooo good. I can’t take any of the credit. I found the recipe on The Homesick Texan blog. She comes up with some truly   recipes. I’ve want to try all of them, here is where I started. The ingredient list looks long but its super easy and very much worth it. The meat is so flavorful. Its spicy and smoky… love it!

Start browning up 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef. While that is cooking away grab your blender/Ninja. Dump in a chipotle in adobo sauce, tomato sauce, oregano, cumin, paprika, allspice, and a pinch of cayenne.

Pour in 2 tsp of Worchestershire sauce…

Blend that up! It will have the consistency of pizza sauce.

Now dice up 1/2 of a bell pepper, any color will do.

and 1/2 of a medium onion.

Give 2 garlic cloves a quick chop…

Toss those 3 in the pan with your ground beef and cook a few minutes until tender.

Now pour in your tomato mixture…

and a bottle of beer. Mexican lager would be ideal but GF Redbridge works too 🙂

next comes a handful of chopped cilantro and  2 Tbs ketchup. Cook this on med-low for about 15 minutes until the liquid reduces and thickens.

Add in another handful of cilantro and squeeze in 1/2 a lime. Taste and add salt and pepper as needed.

Pile on top of a soft bun and cover in fresh guacamole and cheese!! You just can’t imagine how good this tastes! You have to try it! This would also make great taco meat! Or you could pile it onto some chips, top with cheese and toast for nachos… you could even put it on ice cream… well… maybe not…

Tex Mex Sloppy Joes
1 1/2lb ground beef
1/2 bell pepper, diced
1/2 medium onion, diced
1 garlic cloves
1 15oz can tomato sauce
1 chipotle in adobo sauce (not 1 can!! one pepper, more if you really want it hot!)
2 tsp dried oregano
2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 tsp allspice
pinch of cayenne pepper
2 tsp Worchestershire sauce
12 oz beer
2 Tbs ketchup
1/2 cup cilantro, divided
1 Tbs lime juice
Salt & Pepper to taste

Brown ground beef. While that is cooking use blender/Ninja to blend tomato sauce, oregano, cumin, paprika, allspice, cayenne, and Worchestershire. Dice up onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Once beef is browned drain if necessary. Add in pepper, onion, and garlic, cook until tender. Pour in tomato sauce, beer, add in ketchup and 1/2 of cilantro. Cook on Med-low for 15 mins until liquid is reduced and thick. Add in remaining cilantro and squeeze in lime juice. Mix and serve!
