Finally!!! Let’s frost some cookies!! Here’s what you’ll need. Softened unsalted butter, vanilla, salt, powdered sugar, milk, an offset spatula, food coloring-optional, and of course… sugar cookies!!
To me, sugar cookies and homemade butter cream frosting go hand in hand… I can’t spend time hand crafting homemade sugar cookies to slap on some store-bought frosting… it’s gotta be butter cream outta my kitchen. And as odd as it may seem it’s probably healthier than that stuff in the can anyway!!
First I put 2 sticks of softened butter into the mixer. NOTE: If you double the sugar cookie recipe… double the frosting too 🙂 Whip the butter up for a minute the. Add 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1/8 tsp salt and 3 cups powdered sugar. Start slow then increase speed as mixture combines.
Once that has combined add in milk or heavy cream until it is the consistency you want.
This is the consistency I prefer. If it’s too soft and smooth it won’t set on the cookie and then you have a gooey mess. If it’s too dry it’s hard to spread nicely. Test it with your finger 🙂 Here I’m adding some rose food coloring…
Perfect for Valentine’s week!!
Now grab a cookie and put a good dollop of frosting on there.
Spread the love around… and there you have it.
I like to put them on a baking sheet and pop them in the freezer for a couple of minutes to quick set the frosting… I’m not a patient person… Maybe you gathered that from my 3 part series just to make cookies… thank you for not judging me 🙂
You really can’t beat homemade sugar cookies with butter cream frosting 🙂 Enjoy!!
